I have been working over the last 30 years in project assignment for different organisations, engaging in different markets, using different technologies and working great people. I believe you have to keep learning and experiencing – you should never stop trying to developing yourself or taking on new challenges. If this happens, your motivation and work momentum will start on a downward track.
As an example of continued learning experiences, I have just completed project work on the Prince of Wales with the Aircraft Carrier Alliance working with the programme team helping in a small way to deliver this massive programme of work. As an experience this is one is difficult to beat – The Prince of Wales carrier is one of the largest and most complex construction projects you will find. The Carrier is not only an advanced battleship and also has a full medical centre to match a modern hospital, accommodation complex to match a large hotel, catering requirement to match any restaurant, an airport, a floating power station to serve the energy needs as well the implementing leading technology and systems to serve the needs of the ship.
The experience on the Prince of Wales demonstrated to me no matter the size and complexity of the work your fundamental knowledge and practical approach to problems will always help drive forward. Never be overwhelmed by the task ahead; break it down into manageable goals, setting achievable targets. Believe in yourself and your knowledge but always be prepared to learn and develop.
